Natural fabrics like linen, cotton or light velvet are ideal. Choose fabrics in breezy textures (linen slubs, nubby weaves or soft velvets). Soft blues, sandy beiges, crisp whites or muted greens work beautifully. For example, a striped navy-and-white linen cushion, a pale blue cotton cushion, and a cream velvet cushion layered together might grace a sofa. These choices reflect sky, sea and sand.
