There is a large array of choices when choosing an entertainment unit and many factors should be considered. Whilst many styles and choices exist, we think the smartest choice is a Hamptons style unit, with its timeless style and classic design.

With advanced technology buying an entertainment unit is not as restricted as it was in the days of dvd players and other bulky electrical entertainment devices.

Here are some factors to consider when purchasing an entertainment unit.

1) Size

The first consideration, as with most furniture, should always be to consider the size and scale of the room. Entertainment units sizes vary dramatically.

Our most popular sized entertainment units are generally around 1.6 - 1.7m which fits most customer homes. For those of us lucky enough to have a generous space you may be able to fit one of our large units which scale up from 2m wide.

Our most luxurious choice is our full wall cabinets.  These cabinets have adjustable shelves and are the ultimate wow for a home giving ample display space, storage and tv space (this unit fits a tv up to 65 inch). These have been a customer favourite for many years. This is the ultimate when it comes to combining storage, display and entertainment in the one piece.  Our largest full wall unit is 2.7 metres wide.

For smaller spaces, our customers choose a smaller buffet or large bedside options such as Ascot or Plantation buffet or the Jessica storage unit.

2)Function and storage needs

Once you have the scale right, next you need to understand how it needs to perform. Do you have many items the unit will need to store? Is it in the main area or a secondary area such as a bedroom?  Do you use other components such as dvd players or games?  We find that storage needs vary significantly household to household. Some customers want to leave a more streamlined existence with minimal storage. Other customers will take storage wherever they can get it.  Customers with kids also often have gaming consoles, so closed storage is ideal.

Whilst most clients buy a traditional entertainment unit with an open middle section, other options are available. With the advance in technology, and less reliance on bulky electrical items in your digital space, many of our customers are choosing to use buffets, cabinets or even consoles for the entertaining needs. Buffets provide loads of storage space, and the tv sits higher than an entertainment unit.

2.Style

Because our designs are so timeless, we don't have a huge range to choose from. We have focussed on classic designs in our key sizes and finished.

Below is a summary of some of our best selling entertainment unit designs.

Plantation

Our Plantation range is perfect for a wide range of homes including coastal, modern or traditional. Our customers love that their remotes still work mostly through the slatted doors.   Many customers with plantation shutters choose this style to compliment their shutters.  Choose either an all white or whitewash oak.

Ascot

Our Ascot range is a best seller. The fretwork on the doors is simply stunning and again this style is perfect for a wide range of homes with its classic design. Again, choose from a fresh satin white or whitewash oak.  This is available in 2 sizes. Customers can choose between the Ascot entertainment unit or buffet.

New designs coming soon- Diamond and Taylor

We have purposefully made these designs to be used as a buffet or entertainment unit.

We hope that this helps your select your ideal entertainment unit.  If you have any questions please feel free to visit or contact your local SMH showroom.
